Beijing CAG: A Unique Office Building Design

The design of the Beijing CAG project embraces asymmetry and balance, creating a captivating and imposing presence. Through the clever use of stone and shifted windows, the building exudes an aura of strength and gravitas. The flexible and variable separation of materials adds a touch of dynamism, while maintaining harmony and unity between the office and residential spaces. This design truly highlights the building's unique personality.

Located on South Street of Taiyanggong, Chaoyang District, Beijing, the original building was initially designed for commercial entertainment purposes. However, the transformation into the CAG headquarters presented a stark contrast in terms of overall image and functional space. The designers at Link Architectural Design Consultant rose to the challenge, creating a design that seamlessly integrates the building's original purpose with its new identity.

The realization of the Beijing CAG design involved the use of various cutting-edge technologies and materials. The building facade features an aluminum alloy frame structure glass curtain wall, strip glass curtain wall, stone curtain wall, strip aluminum plate, and grille. The open frame aluminum alloy structure glass curtain wall provides a visually striking appearance, while the overhanging window design adds an element of intrigue. The glass plates are securely fixed to the curtain wall keel, ensuring both safety and aesthetics. The stone curtain wall utilizes a steel profile for horizontal and vertical frames, with a hot dip galvanized surface. The insulation consists of 75mm glass wool, while the surface material boasts 30mm thick granite stone. The meticulous attention to detail and use of high-quality materials contribute to the overall excellence of the design.

The Beijing CAG project commenced in 2013 and was completed in 2014, both in Beijing. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to address specific challenges and optimize the building's potential. The original design had certain aspects that required modification, such as the deconstructive facade treatment and the need for natural lighting in office spaces. The transformation design successfully unified different parts of the building, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing structure. Additionally, shared public activity spaces were created to foster communication and relaxation among employees.

The Beijing CAG design has received recognition for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate exceptional technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
